In February 2008, Salt Separation Services were awarded a new contract to further improve support to the Royal Navy’s fresh water production and treatment equipment. The contract is expected to deliver up to 20% savings and dramatically increase the efficiency of stores and engineering support offered to the fleet.
Although primarily focused on the supply of spares, an additional requirement of the contract was to look at the feasibility of improving the reliability of the Reverse Osmosis plants fitted to the T23 Class Frigate. Recent commitment by the RN to operations worldwide has seen the original Reverse Osmosis plant (installed some 10 years ago) increasingly operating outside its designed parameters resulting in numerous failures and large periods of plant downtime whilst on deployed operations (some failures even making it into the national newspapers under the headline “HMS Stinky”). Salt Separation Services have presented a number of very innovative and potentially cost effective solutions to these problems which MESH WATER are keen to explore further. Darren Low, Project Leader for the MESH WATER EPT stated: “I’m looking forward to doing business with Salt Separation Services. This is a very important contract for us as it guarantees the continuity of supply for over 2,000 spares at significant savings compared to the current, multiple contract, enabling arrangements. Salt Separation Services have shown their ability and commitment to all aspects of the contract and have developed a number of innovative approaches to providing an affordable solution to the increasingly challenging problems encountered on the Type 23’s” |
